Today Lance and I went back to work and Bella went back to school. Such a short break, but at least we get another two days off next week. Part of me wishes she had been a New Year’s baby so that we could have her birthday off every year!
Anyway, we spent the past two days with Bela’s grandma Charlotte and grandpa James who came to visit us. Despite the short holiday break, I was really excited about starting new traditions with Bella and hope that we’ve come up with a few that will last for many years.
During the day, Bella was entertained by some play time with Grandma and Grandpa.
We took some pictures in front of the tree.
And showed off Bella’s homemade handprint ornament.
Lance has gotten really into pizza making this year, so we decided that would be a fun Christmas Eve tradition – especially when Bella is old enough that she can help add toppings and participate in the fun.
We decided to start the tradition of giving Christmas “jammies” on Christmas Eve, so Bella got to open her first gift.
We had talked about going to the late night Christmas Eve service at Duke Chapel with everyone, but the grandparents were tired and we decided not to wake Bella up, so Lance and I went alone. Once again the Chapel was totally packed. The candlelit service features beautiful music and a wonderful atmosphere. But it goes until 12:15 am so we were tired when we got home!
Bella was up and ready to get going by 8 am Christmas morning (she woke up to nurse around 6 but thankfully went back to sleep!). Lance made his wonderful waffles for everyone and then we got ready to open presents!
After taking a few more pictures by the tree, it was time for a nap. Lance and I then spent the rest of the day cooking a dinner of brisket, sweet potato casserole, and orzo salad while Bella either napped or played with her grandparents.
The holiday flew by but it was so much fun. I can’t wait until next year when she will really start understanding what is going on.
Now, it’s time to really get to planning on her birthday party. It is just over a week away!
